An Olympic spotlight on the importance of mental wellness at work ❤️

With the news cycle moving at a seemingly faster and faster pace, it’s easy to forget the things that were making headlines just a few weeks ago. Indeed, while the pandemic presented the Tokyo Olympics with a whole new set of challenges, it also shone a spotlight on the mental health of the athletes themselves.

Simone Biles was one of many who talked openly about their struggles with mental health and the pressure of performing on a global stage. A few weeks earlier tennis star Naomi Osaka withdrew from Wimbledon and the French Open in order to preserve her mental health. And Jessica Bartley, director of mental health services for the U.S. Olympic Committee, said her team received around 10 requests a day during the Olympics to support athletes’ mental health needs.

While doing forward double pike somersaults or serving aces might seem one step removed from ‘normal’ working lives, the issues of mental health, anxiety, performance pressure and imposter syndrome are all still interlinked, regardless of one’s profession.

As such, this month’s DEX Digest is dedicated to mental wellness and the ways that employers can help their workforce with better policies and technology that support their staff.
